The AYBSA is proud to announce that on July 24, 2014, the Arlington National U12 All Star Team captured the Cal Ripken New England Regional Baseball Championship in Raynham, MA. Our All-Stars are now going to Alachua, Florida August 5 – 14 to represent Arlington, Massachusetts and New England in the 2014 Cal Ripken World Series. This is a once in a life time experience for the boys, but the cost of this trip will certainly be a financial burden to most families.
The AYBSA has set a goal to raise $60,000 to offset the travel and lodging for each family. We realize this is a hefty challenge, but we have faith that the community and friends of baseball will contribute and help make this dream come true for the players. We are asking for your help in the form of a tax deductible donation. For your convenience we have created a link on our website where donations will be accepted online. Please click "Please Donate" .
If you would like to donate by check please make it payable to the AYBSA and mention the National U12 All-Stars in the notes section. Our Tax ID # is 26-2590814 and our mailing address is PO Box 246, Arlington, MA 02476.
Thank you in advance for your support and good luck to the team.
ARLINGTON NATIONAL U12 ALL-STARS 2014 CAL RIPKEN NEW ENGLAND REG
On July 24, 2014, the Arlington National U12 All Star Team captured the Cal Ripken New England Regional Baseball Championship in Raynham, MA. The All Stars, with a combined record of 15-1, commenced their title run by sweeping their District Tournament, held in Marblehead, with a 4-0 record. Thereafter, the All Stars won the Eastern Massachusetts State Championship, held in Tyngsboro, with a 7-1 record. Finally, the team completed their outstanding run with a perfect 4-0 record, including 2 wins against the host team Raynham, to become the New England Regional Champion. The All Stars’ success was the result of great teamwork, aggressive base running, outstanding pitching, which held opponents to two or fewer runs in eight games, solid defense, which played nearly errorless ball in the final ten contests, and a potent offense, which scored ten or more runs in seven of their games.
“This is a fantastic group of players, parents, and coaches,” said manager John Messuri. “It’s always nice to have team success which helps create a memorable experience. One of the things I am most proud is that after winning the State Tournament in Tyngsboro and then NE Regional Tournament, event organizers and opponents commented on our boy’s sportsmanship and respect for the game. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
The Regional Championship is Arlington’s first in six years. The All Stars will now represent Arlington and the entire New England Region in the Cal Ripken World Series hosted by Alachua, Florida, on August 5. President of the Arlington Youth Baseball and Softball Association (AYBSA) Paul Carroll said “The league is extremely proud of the accomplishments of this team. Once again they have proven that they amongst the top teams in the Northeast and will now compete nationally against the best teams in the country. This is all made possible by the hard work of the players, coaches, and parents. The AYBSA would like to congratulate the U12 Arlington National All-Star team and wish them good luck in the World Series.”
The team consists of Jacob Ahern, Ryan Boyle, Caden FitzPatrick, Brendan Flynn, Spencer Friedman, David Gydus, John Hourican, Brendan Jones, Patrick Masci, Timothy Mazzei, Anthony Messuri, James Santagati, Timothy Shaw, Sam Theodore, and Jonathan Zak. The team is managed by John Messuri, who is assisted by coaches Scott Jones, Rich Flynn, Michael Theodore, Michael Mazzei, John Masci and Joe FitzPatrick.
Hats off to our 12 year old Nationals. They are the New England Champs, and will be representing the region in the upcoming Cal Ripken World Series in Alachua Florida. These kids are not only a very talented baseball team, but they have represented our town with all the respect and class, which they have shown, in each of the tournaments they have won. I was fortunate to have been able to make a couple of their games, and I have been complimented by the Cal Ripken State officials of what a great group of kids we have.
It all starts at the top, and I would like to thank the coaches and the parents for the time and effort they have put in to this team. John Messuri, Scott Jones, Rich Flynn, John Masci, Mike Theodore, Mike Mazzei, have spent countless hours practicing and traveling with these kids for the past 7 weeks. Hopefully, I didn't miss anyone.
We will update the league on the World Series once we have more information.
Also, we will be trying to fund raise for the Team, as not all the expenses are picked up by Cal Ripken.
This is quite an accomplishment, and we could use any support to provide the team, coaches, and families.
Please keep your eyes open for fundraising details and how you can help send the kids to the World Series!
