Reminder - New bat Rules effective 2018 forward

Reminder for USABat Standard in Cal Ripken Baseball for upcoming 2019 season

As mandated by Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken, in conjunction with Little League Baseball, Pony Baseball, and other youth baseball organizations, Arlington Youth Baseball & Softball Association is adopting the USABat standard for all bats used in the 2018 season.

The purpose of the USABat is to standardize on a more wood-like performance, while still retaining the durability and lighter-weight materials (especially for the younger players). It is important to note that the new USABat bats for our Cal Ripken-aged players (7-12) will now feature a bigger 2 5/8" barrel.

ONLY bats marked with the USABat logo will be approved for use in AYBSA in 2018.

For more information regarding this change, see the following links:

Announcement: https://www.baberuthleague.org/batter-up/articles/usabat-standard.aspx

Bat Rules (has chart with 2018 rules): https://www.baberuthleague.org/bat-rules.aspx

As you will learn from these links, USABat bats are currently available for purchase from the various manufacturers and sporting goods stores.

Tee-Ball Bats (26” and under in length) will not be require to change under the USABat program. However AYBSA will be providing USABat stickers to all managers to review and apply to all existing bats.

Players are required to attend at least one tryout in order to be eligible for the draft, no exceptions.   Players already on a Major league roster from the previous year do not need to tryout and are only required to register.  After the try-out there will be a draft to fill the 10 Major league rosters.  The remaining 10 to 12 year olds not selected will be drafted on to the Triple-A teams.  The rosters will be finished by the middle of March and practices will begin late March, early April.  Game will start end of April and end in late June.  There will be 2 to 3 games a week with one being on the weekend.  Start times during the week will be 5:45PM or 7:30PM and weekends in the early afternoon and evenings.

AYBSA GIRLS SOFTBALL

The softball program will play as part of a multi-town league.  There will be travel to local neighboring towns.  We anticipate travel to be in the range of 5-10 miles (10-20 minutes). The age divisions are as follows:

U14 Age Group (born 2004 - 2005)

Open to girls ages 13 &14.  This level, while recreational, is competitive and plays by full fast pitch rules with patched umpires officiating.   Depending on the number of players registered by mid-February, there may be a player tryout/assessment in order to finalize roster(s).

U12 Age Group (born 2006 - 2007)

Open to girls ages 11 &12.  This level, while competitive, continues to build on the skills and knowledge necessary to play the game. Players will pitch, there are some age specific rule modifications and patched umps will officiate.  Depending on the number of players registered by mid-February, there may be a player tryout/assessment in order to finalize roster(s).

U10 Age Group (2008 & 2009)

Open to girls ages 9 & 10.  Focus is developmental.  The season typically starts with coach pitch and progresses from there.  There will also be some age specific rule modifications.  Registration may be limited to ensure appropriate roster size.

U8 Age Group (2010 & 2011)

This program would be for girls ages 7 & 8.  We do not have a formal program at this time, but have opened a registration to gage community interest.  If we have enough girls interested, we will work on a program.  See the registration page.
